On the importance of building community through the arts and music: I have seen the repercussions of boredom. In Bend, many individuals my age are inspired by boredom to do enough drugs to be uninspired or deface their neighborhoods just to see transformation. With art and music - and most importantly the community that amasses at the hub of creativity and talent - comes inspiration, collaboration and the positive forces needed to unite the community in a mutual sense of purpose and identity.
