Saxon’s Fine Jewelers, On A LITE Christmas NITE Holiday Concert is a 17 year old holiday tradition in Bend. Again this year, the Riverhouse Conference Center will be transformed into a winter holiday wonderland complete with Christmas trees, lights and flowers. This year, we are showcasing three phenomenal non-profit organizations, each of whom will have a Giving Tree at the show where guests can offer a donation by picking a star off the tree. At 8pm there will be drawing from each of the non-profits donations gathered at the show and three people will receive gifts from Saxons Fine Jewelers!
Common Table, Vital Provisions and Saving Grace are three non-profit recipients this year, and will be present at the show.
The Holiday Pop-Up Shop will feature over 50 indie artists, crafters and small business from around Oregon, primarily Central Oregon. The Shop will be open all weekend starting Saturday December 17th 11am - 8pm and Sunday the 18th from 10am - 4pm, leading up to the show. Beer and wine tastings, shopping happy hours each day and the best local entertainment provide a fun and energetic backdrop to the last minute shopping experience! Stay warm and keep holiday spending local. For more information, including the entertainment lineup in the Shop for the weekend, click

“Life is being on the wire, everything else is just waiting.” - Karl Wallenda
The patriarch of the famous aerialist family certainly knew what he was talking about after a lifetime of thrilling, edge-of-the-seat performances for his audiences. While the stakes might not be as high for a jazz band improvising in a recording studio or in front of a live audience, Spyro Gyra’s Jay Beckenstein understands the passion that drives a person and makes “life on the wire” so appealing.
For more than three decades, the band has maintained a position at the forefront of modern jazz by successfully managing not just one, but several feats of creative dexterity. “That's what has kept this band going,” says Beckenstein. “There are always balances to be found – between the individual player and the group, between the songwriter and the player. It's about both satisfying yourself and satisfying your audience. And when you’re improvising in front of a crowd, you’re really walking down that wire. There are always surprises that way, but our openness to those surprises is what makes this band what it is. We just happen to be walking on a slightly more forgiving tightrope.”
“My hope is that our music has the same effect on the audience that it does on me,” says Beckenstein. “I've always felt that music, and particularly instrumental music, has this non-literal quality that lets people travel to a place where there are no words. Whether it's touching their emotions or connecting them to something that reminds them of something much bigger than themselves, there's this beauty in music that's not connected to sentences. It's very transportive. I would hope that when people hear our music or come to see us, they’re able to share that with us. That's the truly glorious part of being a musician.”
Opening Act - African Gospel Acappella
African Gospel Acappella is presently comprised of four men (previously six) from the African country of Liberia. They represent three different tribes and sing in several native African languages, and in English (English is the official language of Liberia).
All four men are blind. They have survived a civil war, poverty and many other hardships. The group met many years ago while attending the School for the Blind in Monrovia, Liberia's capitol city.
After the civil war started, all of the men were scattered for a time. Then, in 1992, they regrouped as the "Inspirational Echoes of the Blind." Through song and testimony, they ministered and evangelized throughout the city of Monrovia and beyond.
In 1998, all four men came to America and toured forty-six states as the "Liberian Acapella Choir." Through their ministry efforts, many orphans in Liberia benefited by receiving food and care.
In September of 2002, the group formed the new ministry of African Gospel Acappella. They are a non-profit organization and raise funds through performances and the sales of their CD's.
This is a beautiful and inspirational performance to witness.
